Your Name: Lucky Bittor

What do you do?: I am the President of PsychAidnLove Outreach

Where is your organization located or headquatered?: Accra

How did you get started in your field?: A passion to make change was ignited  in June 2015 when I was invited by a friend to join a youth group in his church for a visit/ donation to the Children's Ward at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. Somehow, we were taken to most of the wards in the hospital as well and there I heard stories of what actually took beautiful people to a "not so pleasant" place. Sadly, the majority of them had been abandoned by families.

I thought to myself, "How do we prevent many more people from encountering these psychological problems or even getting to points like that, and how do we support these patients in here?" So the dream of creating a mentally-aware society and reaching out to people living with mental illness was sparked and has ever since become a passion, which I strongly pursue to date.

Tell us a bit more about your organization: PsychAid & Love Outreach is a non-profit organization that seeks to bridge the social gap between the society and persons affected by mental illness through massive mental health awareness and nationwide outreach programs.
We are focused on breaking the stigma attached to mental illness, so we visit psychiatric hospitals to socialize with patients and to donate to them as well. We believe that this will go a long way to clear any misconceptions about persons living with mental illness.

How did your education and previous experiences help you to become what you are today?: I learnt to find solutions for existing problems and to work with people to achieve results.

Is there anything else you are working on at this time?: Yes, PsychAidnLove Outreach is currently working on some community outreach programs geared towards awareness creation in schools and religious organisations. On a personal level, in addition to my work at PsychAidnLove Outreach, I am also the Business Development Manager at Built Accounting Services Limited, Accra, an accounting firm that provides accounting services for SMEs. I also serve as the Sunday School Superintendent at the Dr. Isaac Addo Allotey Memorial Methodist Church, Accra.

How do you define success?: Success is being able to make the world a better place.

What are the top qualities you would require in someone who wants to work with/for you?: The individual must have a passion for mental health and a desire to make a change in the overall mental health outlook in Ghana.

What advice would you give to students, young professionals and aspiring changemakers/entrepreneurs?: As change makers, your goal should be to give back to society by way of improving lives. This is true success!
