Your Name: Paa Kwasi Berko

What do you do?: I am a Chef, Owner and Creator

What's the name of your company/organization: Calabash Restaurant

How did you get started in your field?: I've always been passionate about food and everything that it entails. I started out studying architecture in university but my love for food couldn't be kept at bay. I normally cooked for friends in my dormitory. As time went on, my fan base grew as well as my skill level so I decided to start a delivery service for my friends and customers in other universities and surrounding areas. In no time I started looking at catering for events and private parties etc. This was a four year journey that helped me grow in my field and become a household name in a far away place called Nanjing (China)... This also helped me to generate some money of which I have used to open my own restaurant, Calabash, with the help of my business partner, friend and roommate Elias Yemoh.

Tell us a bit more about your company/organization: We are a Ghanaian restaurant based in Nanjing (China). We cook and serve authentic Ghanaian food and provide the full experience that comes with the Ghanaian heritage.

How did your education and previous experiences help you to become what you are today?: Actually, studying Architecture helped me to realise that I wanted to do nothing but become a chef! Haha

How do you define success?: Success is not a skill, but an attitude... The sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out, (passion, faith, hard work, commitment and a dream) and God's grace.

If you had to start your career/company/organization over again, what would you do differently?: Nothing, I think circumstances we've been through as well as our actions have taught us. Whether good or bad, it's been for our overall good. We live and we learn.

What are the top qualities you would require in someone who wants to work with/for you?: Be passionate, open minded, committed and goal oriented.

What advice would you give to students, young professionals and aspiring change makers/entrepreneurs?: Be you! Love yours... There's no such thing as a life better than yours. Life's best teachers; heart breaks, empty pockets and failures... Use these as fuel to power yourself towards your goals!
